Smurf Values$$

lunar-landers20003_bullySince I have started collecting all items related to Smurfs, I’ve realized that some items are so rare, you wouldn’t even believe their market value.

Most of the common, used figurines are worth a couple of bucks each.  But some of the harder to find figurines are worth up to a hundred dollars.

Take this “astro” smurf for example, it’s value is put at $35.99 on www.mushroomvillage.com

But wait check this one out, this Lunar Lander playset is valued at a WHOPPING  $314!!!!

All together I would estimate I have about $500 worth of Smurfs & related memorabilia in my collection.  I would anticipate that IF the movie is released as predicted, the value of the vintage smurf items will continue to increase in demand and therefore value.

So hopefully my FUN hobby will turn into a valueable asset oneday!

GARGAMEL!!!

gargamel_and_azrael_prowlingThe greatest ENEMY of the Smurfs, Gargamel the evil wizard has only one purpose in life; to DESTROY the smurfs!

Gargamel comes up with a new scheme each episode to try and capture, eat, harm or destroy the SMURFS.

“I don’t want to eat them, I don’t want to turn them into gold, all I want now is to DESTROY THEM!”

Here is a great episode, called Gargamel’s Last Will:

And an excerp from the actual press release:

Jun 11 2008

Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation announced they’ve made a deal with Lafig Belgium S.A. (owner of the movie rights) to create a Smurfs movie. According to the studios, the Smurfs movie will be a mix of live action and animation. There’s no word yet on who will direct however Shrek 2 and 3 screenwriters David Stem and David Weiss are in negotiations to write the screenplay.

In a press release on the Smurfs deal Belgrad said, “The Smurfs are one of the best-known franchises and among the most beloved collection of characters in the world. These classic characters have entertained millions of people and several generations all over the world for more than half a century. We’re very excited to introduce a new generation to Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the other Smurfs in all of their ‘three apple tall’ glory.”

Hannah Minghella, President of Production for Sony Pictures Animation, added, “The entire team at Sony Pictures Animation is tremendously excited to team with our colleagues at Columbia Pictures and Kerner Entertainment in bringing the Smurfs to the big screen. This is our first hybrid film and we’re excited to expand our creative initiatives in this direction.”

Pierre Culliford (aka Peyo) created the lovable characters in 1958. American audiences were introduced to the blue guys in a popular cartoon TV series which aired between 1981-1980. Although American fans always knew them as Smurfs, they were originally called Les Schtroumpfs in French. Culliford first introduced them as supporting characters in a comic book series, but they proved so popular they spawned a toy line, games, the TV series, and now, finally, this feature film.

smurfetteSmurfette is my favorite smurf, of course!

Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf until Sassette joined the smurfs.

Here is the definition of Smurfette from Wikipedia

From the official Smurfs website:

The Smurfette was originally created by the horrible wizard Gargamel to cause trouble amongst the Smurfs. With a big nose and wild hair, she didn’t originally look like much. Using his alchemy and knowledge, Papa Smurf transformed her into the charming Smurfette that melts the hearts of the other Smurfs. She’s one of a kind, full of feminine grace and frivolous. She can also be very much a woman, playing with the feelings of her sweethearts.

In my collection I have a few nice little smurfettes, including this one holding baby smurf:
